Description
In this brand new BBC 1 series, Nigel Slater demonstrates straightforward, down to earth cooking, filmed at his home, vege-patch and on friends' allotments. Each programme takes us through a week's worth of ‘Simple Suppers’.
Kiss My Pixel were commissioned to produce the graphics, effects, brand and series styling for this pioneering BBC1 series. Food shows have seldom worked on the BBC1 format, however the success of Simple Suppers has already provoked talk of a follow up series.
Kiss My Pixel shot on RED, with motion control, 4K, high-speed and steady-cam to produce some of the highly stylized shots seen within the programme. “Multipass” motion control titles were shot to provide special effect sequences for a subtle yet visually stunning opening sequence, which also provided content for the many stings and transitions seen within the body of the series.
“Days of the weeks” were integrated into the sequences, fully editable and digitally tracked on to 4K footage to allow maximum control and flexibility with the series content; so that the oven interface could say “Tuesday” one minute and Friday the next. All the recipes and menu sections where introduced and re-capped in the same integrated subtle way, so that the whole graphics package became part of the series narrative.
Bespoke credits were produced to set this series apart, and remind viewers that graphic design, as with Nigel’s ethos can be elegant and considered without detracting from good taste.
